To provide high quality, flexible information services that improve the competitiveness of the entire organization, using proven technology to provide cost-effective systems that improve efficiency, foster communications, teamwork, and partnership within the enterprise, and deliver a return on the investment in Information Technology.
Information Systems Department Objectives
- Develop robust, yet flexible, information systems that allow AWI to:
- meet changing business conditions
- improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
- exploit new business opportunities
- achieve a competitive market advantage
- facilitate retail execution of our business strategy
- measure performance of business assets
- assist all departments when looking at new technologies
- Provide an efficient and effective infrastructure for information access and dissemination through formal reporting mechanisms as well as end-user information access.
- Facilitate organizational change by introducing technologies that improve work methods, improve communications and coordination activities and improve organization-wide productivity.
- Build and maintain an Information Systems Development Environment that improves the quality of the IS product and increases the efficiency of the development process.
- Assist in providing technology training to our user population to ensure full and effective use of IS services.
- Provide the company with an environment that provides services and systems with zero downtime limits.

Our application set consists of…
- Oracle’s eBusiness Suite version 11i for our full set of Financials, H/R and Payroll
- We are fully EDI capable supporting the 40.10,40.30 and 40.40 transactions sets
- Retalix’s BICEPS and PROMPT for Purchasing and Payment Reconciliation
- Retalix’s TRICEPS and Yard Management System for our Warehouse Management Systems
- CAMS and XATA for our Transportation System
- Information Builder’s WebFocus for our Enterprise Reporting Engine
- Our Order Entry and Order Management systems are highly customized and built in-house using JAVA and the J2EE specifications
- Our internal and external websites are also custom built using JAVA and the J2EE specifications running or Oracle IAS servers
- We have a small number COBOL applications sets that will be migrated off our IBM mainframe by the end of year.
